Are you looking for a small SUV that easily fits into your city lifestyle? Meet the 2020 Hyundai Kona. This small SUV comes in five different trims that fit well in the city and open country.

The Engine

There are two different engines in your new Kona, depending on which trim you choose. The SE, SEL, and SEL Plus run a fuel-sipping inline 4-cylinder engine. It generates a healthy 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. It works with a six-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive version of the SUV saves you time and trips to the gas station by giving you 27 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. If you choose the all-wheel-drive version, you’ll get 26 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.

For more power, the Limited and Ultimate rely on a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine. It is still city friendly with 175 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. It pairs with a seven-speed Ecoshift dual-clutch transmission. When it comes to fuel mileage, this front-wheel-drive engine gives you 28 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The all-wheel-drive version gives you 26 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.

Size

Space is at a premium when you live in the city. The Hyundai Kona doesn’t take up much room at all, with its 102.4-inch (8.53-foot) wheelbase. The vehicle is only 164 inches (13.67 feet) long. It has a height of 61 inches without the roof rack. If you include the roof rack, it is 61.6 inches high. This means it can fit in any parking garage as long as the height limit is above five feet.

Safety

Your new Kona surrounds you with safety features that give you peace of mind in busy city traffic like the standard lane keep warning. If you drift over marked pavement without using a turn signal, then your SUV alerts you so you can safely make the lane corrections. You can add a driver’s attention warning. If your vehicle senses your attention drifting or that you are getting tired, it sets off a chime. It can also suggest getting off the road for a break.

The rear cross-traffic warning alerts you if a vehicle is approaching from either side as you back out of a parking spot. The forward-collision avoidance assistance with pedestrian detection uses a small camera and sensors to scan the road. If a person or vehicle is spotted, it warns you so you can stop in time. If you don’t react to the warning, it automatically applies your emergency braking system.

Technology

Keep your eyes focused on the busy city traffic with your heads up display. It puts important information such as directions and your speed on the bottom of your windshield. Leave your charging cords at home if you get the SEL Plus, Limited, or Ultimate and enjoy wireless device charging.
